The Social Lab CIC Policy

This policy outlines the operational principles and guidelines for The Social Lab CIC, company number: 15762582, a Community Interest Company in the UK. Our project, SHANTI, focuses on empowering and supporting the wellbeing of women of colour through community-driven events.

1. Governance and Conflict of Interest

• The Social Lab CIC is managed by the Founder, who oversees all operational, financial, and strategic aspects of the organisation.

• The company has two additional Directors who act in an advisory capacity to meet funding requirements. These Directors are not involved in day-to-day management and have no active responsibilities beyond attending quarterly meetings.

• All contractors engaged for events are paid on a per-event basis; there are no employees in the organisation.

2. Data Protection and Privacy (GDPR Compliance)

• The Social Lab CIC is committed to safeguarding the personal data of participants and does not knowingly sell or share personal information with third parties.

• Our website, hosted on Squarespace, allows individuals to subscribe to our newsletter. We advise participants to review Squarespace’s privacy policy for further details on their data handling practices.

• Subscribers to our newsletter may opt out at any time.

3. Event Policy

Our events are free and open to all women of colour. The following disclaimer applies to all SHANTI events:

By booking this ticket, you agree to the following terms:

1. Attendance Commitment: As a community-driven initiative, our events are free for participants. If you are unable to attend, please inform us as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to someone else.

2. Media Consent: You consent to the use of any photos or videos taken during the event for content creation and promotional purposes.

3. Newsletter Subscription: By joining our events, you will automatically be subscribed to our newsletter. You can opt out at any time.

4. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy

• The Social Lab CIC and SHANTI project are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming space for all women of colour, respecting their diverse experiences, identities, and needs.

• We actively promote equity by ensuring our events are accessible and free to participants, addressing any barriers to attendance.

• Feedback from participants is encouraged to ensure continuous improvement and inclusivity in our work.

5. Safeguarding

• The Founder of The Social Lab CIC is certified in Safeguarding Lead Training for Children and Vulnerable Adults Level 2 and holds a current valid and clean DBS check.

• The Founder will be present at all SHANTI events to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants.

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains aligned with our mission and operational needs.

6. Funding and Financial Transparency

• The Social Lab CIC is a non-profit social enterprise. All funding received is reinvested into our operations and activities to support community projects.

• Funding is sourced through grants, donations, and sponsorships. We remain accountable to our funders and the community we serve by maintaining transparent financial records and reporting on the impact of our work.

• We do not charge participants for events, ensuring they remain accessible to all.
